Chablais, the Reformation and the return to peace

François de Sales, however, undertook a patient work of dialogue. He went to meet the inhabitants, talked, wrote, and explained. He rejected violence and chose persuasion. Legend has it that he slipped small texts explaining his faith under people's doors. These writings are sometimes considered one of the first forms of religious press. Little by little, tensions eased. A large part of the population gradually returned to Catholicism. This spiritual reconquest was not achieved through coercion but through dialogue and the pursuit of peace. It profoundly marked the identity of the Chablais region.
