There comes a time of year when an important decision must be made: where to go on winter holidays in the mountainsSkiing or no skiing? By train or car? Snow or no snow?

These are the main questions that assail you at this time of year.

Over time, of many items Articles on these topics were published on the blog of AlpAddictAnd in this document, I offer you a summary that will be useful in helping you decide on your destination for your vsnow and ski holidays in the French Alps.

Winter skiing, or winter in the mountains?

The first question to ask yourself is what type of vacation do you want?

Do you want a resort for skiers, one to enjoy the snow without skiing, or one for practicing a particular activity?

Indeed, you can choose a winter destination in the French Alps to discover landscapes, enjoy the fresh mountain air, walk, have a spa treatment, meditate, in short, relax. We don't go to the snow just to ski..

And again, if you want to do some sport, don't imagine that there's only downhill skiing! You can burn calories by cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, sledding or sliding on any other skating device and even pedaling on fat bikes.

It is true that for 80% of visitors to the mountains in winter, the ultimate goal is skiing, but often they don't ski all day, or their companions don't ski. There are villages where everyone can have a blast in winter. in the mountains.

To get a comprehensive overview of the issue, I suggest you read the following articles:

A simple snow holiday in the mountains?

A second question is also very often asked of me: Will there be snow? at such and such a station at such and such a time?

Not being a fortune teller, I can't answer that. However, in the article below, I explain how to choose a resort based on criteria that increase the chances of snow cover.

Certainly there is altitude (and this is a criterion that matters more and more in this period of global warming), but also exposure and the frequency of precipitation depending on the orientation of the valleys.

Winter holidays in a resort or in a village?

Next, the question concerns the environment you will choose for your ski holiday. A modern resort or an authentic resort with the feel of a mountain village ?

You might dream of a high-altitude snow experience, but you should know that your options will be limited if you want to stay in a real village, with chalets, stone houses, and a church. Especially if you want to ski all day. It's a characteristic of the French Alps. So sometimes, compromise is necessary.

This is what I explain in the following article:

Train, bus or car to get to your ski holiday?

You can also choose your ski resort based on your intended mode of transport. More specifically: train, bus, or car?

transport They offer advantages (less fatigue, more environmentally friendly, etc.) but are still not suitable for certain situations, such as stations far from train stations or travel with young children. Sometimes it's simpler to put the luggage and skis in a car and cover the necessary distance. In this case, it's best to be well-equipped for driving on mountain roads or to choose resorts that require the least amount of driving.

By train, however, there are stations easily accessible from the train station, but you need to know where they are. That's what I'm going to tell you in this list of articles.
